Taking care of housing business
Submit a work order
To report a maintenance issue or concern, please complete the work order request form below. Our team aims to follow up on maintenance concerns in the order they are received and dependent on priority. You can visit your community office to follow up on the status of a non-emergency maintenance issue.
In the event of an EMERGENCY maintenance issue, please contact the RA on duty.
Please contact University Information Technology Services (UITS) Support Center for assistance in accessing IU Secure, eduroam or IU DeviceNet. Phone, email, and chat support is available 24/7.

Community offices, RA on duty information, and emergency information
Your community office in your building can help you with a work order, lock-out assistance, lost or non-working CrimsonCard, pick up a package or oversized mail, and information about programs and events.
During the academic year, all community office desks in our four residence halls are open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–9 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, noon–4 p.m. This excludes holidays and break periods.

It is important you update your mailing address prior to any change of residence to avoid mail and package delays. To ensure that your mail is forwarded, a change of address form or card must be filed with the U.S. Postal Service at least two weeks prior to your departure. Housing and Residence Life should be advised of your forwarding address and all publishers you have subscribed to. Updates may be completed through an online form with the U.S. Postal Service and the Registrar.

Campus breaks
You may stay on campus during fall break (October), Thanksgiving break (November), and spring break (March) each academic year. No additional registration is required, and there are no fees for staying during these breaks.
Please note: University offices close and dining hours may be affected during breaks, so plan ahead for any services you may need.
Check your IU email or the campus calendar for regular break information updates.
Winter break information
Community desks will be closed, and package pickup will be unavailable during the break. Desks will close Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. Regular desk hours will resume on Jan. 8 at 8 a.m.
If you want to stay on campus for winter break, residents in University Tower, North Hall, and Ball Hall will need to register for a winter break stay. There is no additional charge for a break stay, but registration is required.
- Access the registration form via the housing portal after Thanksgiving break.
- After submitting the form, a housing staff member will contact your IU email notifying you of your request status and providing additional information.
- Tower Dining will be closed for winter break, so residents will need to supply their own food or obtain food from Paws’ Pantry.
Residents in the Riverwalk Apartments do not need to register for a winter break stay.
- Clean your space and remove any prohibited items. Housing and maintenance staff will enter rooms for health and safety checks and to replace furnace filters. Make sure your space is clear for easy access.
- Take out all trash and remove any perishable food.
- Lock your door(s) before you leave.
- If there is a vacant space in your room, a new roommate will move in starting 9 at 9 a.m. Clear the space of all items and return furniture to its original position. Failure to do so may result in a fine, and your belongings may be moved.
- You will receive a notification if you are assigned a new roommate.
- Do not leave fish unattended over break. Take them with you or arrange an alternative location.
- If you are leaving your car, lock it, remove valuables, and display your parking permit.
If you are moving out during winter break or not returning to campus for the spring semester, you must cancel your housing contract through the housing portal to avoid spring semester charges. You can submit the cancellation form in advance of your move-out day.
To cancel:
- Log in to the housing portal.
- Select the “Housing Forms”
- Complete the “Contract Cancellation Form.”
To review cancellation details, including fees, refer to our sample housing contract.
Note: Students must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) to maintain on-campus housing eligibility.
